Assemblage with sheet metal and objects
108 x 234.3 x 32.4 cm
The wall reliefs and freestanding assemblages of the Glut series (1986–1989/1991-1994) by Robert Rauschenberg are made of thin sheets of scrap metal with found fragments of domestic and urban detritus. Jockey Cheer Glut features a worn and reshaped sign of the Dr. Pepper soft drink with added elements in yellow and white to complement the composition. The title of this series comes from the surplus or glut of crude oil that resulted in an economic crisis in the 1980s.
