Primarily a photographer, Jack Pierson is part of the Boston School, a group that recorded casual encounters in the style of documentary photography. Pierson has also made an extensive series of words and phrases composed from mismatched found lettering in materials like metal, neon, plastic and wood to read things like “amen,” “trust,” “so what,” and “night.” An artist’s book titled Night paired several of these signs with publicity stills of movie stars, alluding to the Hollywood glamour of the past.
