Installation, LED lighting
Variable dimensions
Known for his installations that turn light into tangible matter, James Turrell employs both perceptual science, architecture and archeological and spiritual references in his work. The Wedgework series are among his most meditative installations that create a seemingly solid form out of colored light that requires some 10–15 minutes for the eyes to adjust and fully appreciate. First explored in the 1970s, this recent manifestation, designed for Turrell’s solo exhibition at Museo Jumex, takes the title Spenta Mainyu, a spirit of Zoroastrianism— one of the earliest recorded belief structures—who symbolizes goodness and creativity.
