Known for his mature explicit and cartoonish paintings, Carroll Dunham’s earlier works are abstract scenarios that try to map the real world with all its inconsistencies. Orange Dwarf features a saturated orange circle at the center, from which a multitude of grayish forms emerge which begin to take on human attributes like teeth and limbs. Combining elements of Pop, Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism and street art, Dunham makes playful compositions of our contemporary moment.
