During his residency at the American Academy in Rome, Anthony Hernández developed a series of photographs that, rather than looking at the iconic architecture in the city, focus on abandoned buildings such as a hospital or a housing-complex, a school or a shopping center. These failed or interrupted projects offer a glimpse into what Hernandez considers contemporary ruins in the ancient city. Shot using a square format camera, the images focus on the details and shapes that are overlooked by passersby, revealing a different type of ruins of the accelerated modern life.
