As a symbolic gesture to link Mercado Granada and Museo Jumex, and designed by artist Alonso Gorozpe, a celebration brings the Mercado Granada to Museo Jumex, marking the beginning of the exhibition Museos en común. The event comprises three moments full of movements and sounds beginning with a walk from the market to the museum, which will highlight ¡Pásele, pásele!, furniture that was co-designed by the market community and artists Chavis Mármol and Mariana Ríos. This is followed in the gallery by a conversation between those involved in the project including guest artists, the Mercado Granada community and Museo Jumex. To conclude the celebration, the salsa band Controversia performs in the museum’s plaza.

For the opening of the exhibition, the furniture co-designed by the artists Chavis Mármol, Mariana Ríos and the community of Mercado Granada will be activated through a conversation between the people involved in the project on behalf of Museo Jumex, the market and the participating artists.

12:30 PM | Concert at the plaza
The conversation will be followed by a live concert by the salsa band Controversia in the museum’s plaza.

Alonso Gorozpe
Artist, curator and community organizer with experience in the co-design of performance in public spaces, Gorozpe studied Architecture and Urbanism at Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City) and holds a Master’s degree in Performance and Interactive Art from Brooklyn College. His most recent artistic and curatorial work consists of collective performative experiences (parades, processions, walks, celebrations) in public spaces. In his work he proposes the design and production of performances as activities that strengthen community bonds and experiences that build upon new memories and collective narratives. As a public performance designer, he has collaborated with a diversity of artists, institutions and communities in New York and Mexico City.

Chavis Mármol
Trained as a visual artist, Mármol has developed his talents in the workshop. With a vast knowledge in crafts, techniques, and materials he builds works that involve various media such as sculpture, painting, photo and video. Along with his practice, he created the production workshop Todo Woooow, where he collaborates helping fellow artists and designers to materialize ideas.

Mariana Ríos
Ríos is an architect with a degree from ITESM with studies in Urbanism and collective space in Universidad de los Andes, Bogota. She worked with Frida Escobedo and has collaborated with Erica Overmeer, Tatsuya Inuikawa, Chavis Mármol, Laboratorio para la Ciudad and MACIA Estudio, where she was co-founder. She is interested in spatial perception and the relationship between people and places, focusing on exploring the probabilities of architecture and art to create spaces, publications or objects that invite new forms of collectivity and experiencing the environment. She is co-author of Jugando en colectivo y Arquitectura para el juego urbano, the first manual for designing public play spaces in Mexico City. In 2017 and 2021 she was a recipient of a grant from FONCA’s Jóvenes Creadores program. She currently runs her own practice in Mexico City and Oaxaca.
