Urs Fischer produces surreal large scale and life–size paintings, sculptures and installations that appear otherworldly. The uncanny reaction they produce responds to the confrontation between the forms and the materials used, as in the case of Nail Solo. A bent metallic nail the height of an adult person leans against a gallery wall, casting a shadow made of paint and polymers. Fischer combines recognizable objects with evidently fake elements that disorient the viewer and break the boundaries between high and low culture.
