Swiss design duo Kueng Caputo consists of Sarah Kueng (1981) and Lovis Caputo (1982). The pair have built a design practice that explores the potential of fine craftsmanship to reveal the common threads between traditional techniques, minimalism, and mass-produced objects. Each work in the Sand Chair series is made with a pigment-colored mixture of sand and cement mortar, poured layer by layer into casting molds of varying shapes. The resulting form is then chiseled into stools. The warm-sunset tonalities of Sand Chair contrast with the cold industrial material.
