Ancient and Modern Foods is a sculpture by Eduardo Abaroa composed by the figure of a mastodon covered with Hostess cakes (similar to the “Pingüino” treats by Mexican brand Marinela), all fabricated in fiberglass. With this piece, Abaroa utilizes recognizable the symbols of the prehistoric animal and the pastries to make a critique of consumerism, playing with the discrepancy between eating habits and how much effort we make to obtain sustenance.
