FRANZ ERHARD WALTHER: OBJECTS, TO USE / INSTRUMENTS FOR PROCESSES
Julieta González, Christian Rattemeyer, Peter Weibel, Franz Erhard Walther, Yve-Alain Bois

For Museo Jumex it is important to make available a series of historical and recent essays of critical significance to an understanding of Franz Erhard Walther’s production that had not been previously translated into English language.

This is particularly the case of the Robho interview and brief text that resulted from Walther’s correspondence with Yve-Alain Bois in 1970, as well as Peter Weibel´s extensive introductory essay for the 2014 reedition of Objkecte, Benutzen, a book originally published in 1968. Weibel’s text not only provides a critical reappraisal of Walther’s groundbreaking book, but also offers extremely valuable contextual insights into the artist’s practice.

Aside from the reprints of these and other, articles, interviews, and essays, also included in this publication are recent scholarly texts by Christian Rattemeyer and Julieta González, the first of which specifically addresses his years in New York, while the second analyzes Walther’s conceptual and material operations in regard to critical writings in the fields of art and philosophy.

Research, support, and collaboration for the exhibition and the publication were provided by the Franz Erhard Walther Foundation. Special thanks to Susanne Walther and Eric Verhagen for their qualified participation in the selection of historical texts.
