TALK: MARIO GARCÍA TORRES AND MUNGO THOMSON

Artist Mungo Thomson and Mario García Torres discuss the conceptual intersections between their practices, including the reactivation and critical engagement with conceptual art through playful approaches. Alongside their critical engagement both have paid special regard to John Baldessari’s legacy, and the artists will discuss direct or indirect influences on their work.

Mungo Thomson (Woodland, California, 1969). Thomson received a MFA from University of California Los Angeles, and attended the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. His work has been exhibited in the CAFAM Biennial, Beijing (2014), the Istanbul Biennial (2011), the Whitney Biennial, New York (2008), the Performa Biennial, New York (2005), and the Biennial of the Moving Image, Geneva (2001). He has had solo exhibitions at Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver (2015), the High Line, New York (2013), the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2008); the Kadist Art Foundation, Paris (2007); and Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAMeC), Bergamo (2006). He lives and works in Los Angeles.
