Wolfgang Tillmans works primarily with photography to transform our perception of what an image is or can be. His abstract photographs are hypnotic, made by manipulating the effect of light directly on the reactive photographic paper. The Freischwimmer works are named after a German swimming certificate awarded to those who can dive from the lower diving board and swim for 15 minutes without returning to the side of the pool.
