Jim Hodges aims to imbue his constructions made of everyday materials and objects with emotional power. His works may be composed of branches, metal chains, artificial silk flowers, blown glass, and light bulbs, to explore themes like fragility and temporality inherent in these objects. Assembled like collages, the artist petrifies the materials, extending their lifetimes. Untitled (from Pink) is made by arranging different colored sockets and light bulbs in a grid formation on wood and hung on the wall. The brightness or size of each lightbulb causes some colors to blend or produce shadows that paint the gallery’s walls and surfaces.
