Ideas of natural displacement, constant transformation and perpetual movement are central to the artist’s work. They play out in Balones acelerados, as initial functionality gives way to the passing of time. Orozco worked for several years on this work, gathering old soccer balls and making small interventions into them, like cutting circles in their skin. This collection includes balls from different places, such as his neighbor’s backyard, which was next to a high school, and others that the Mexican soccer team Pumitas of the Universidad Autónoma de Mexico donated in exchange for new balls offered by the artist.
