Bicycles, dynamos, steel supports, cables, and electric light
Variable dimensions
Known for his witty and playful art, Maurizio Cattelan’s practice is often cyclical or self–referential, harking back to the absurdities of art itself. In this work, the public rides the two bicycles to power a lightbulb, turning visitors into performers who illuminate the gallery. Whether the cyclists are willful participants or are turned into laborers to complete the work is typical of Cattelan’s disruptive questioning of values through humor.
