Black nylon socks and wooden hoops for embroidering
Variable dimensions
María Ezcurra Lucotti explores the physical, emotional and cultural possibilities of the body through clothing and other craft related objects and materials. In Lucotti’s Divergencias negra [Black Divergences] the black nylon socks and embroidery hoops permit her to revise, exhibit and alter the implications that femininity carries with it. The sculpture is full of organic and abstract forms; formal shapes that nod to modernism while its materiality creates an association with the domestic sphere. Lucotti exposes and alters the relations between what we use to cover our bodies and the social codes those objects and materials communicate.
