A significant figure in Swiss art since the 1970s, Miriam Cahn has explored painting alongside performance and installation. Seeking unmediated means of producing her art, she has explored painting blindfolded or naked, where her bodily relation to the materials takes precedent over the mind. Her work is also informed by feminist movements, that also combine, sensuality and emotion with the physical and mental aspects of creativity. In her work, humans, animals and inanimate objects are equally embodied presences, and a twinned sense of violence and desire often permeates her otherwise dream-like images.
