El don de lenguas [The Gift of Tongues] is a group exhibition organized by Museo Jumex at the Museo de la Ciudad de Mérida. Presented as a parallel exhibition at the Yucatán Biennial, the exhibition brings together works from the Colección Jumex and projects created by artists for Museo Jumex in recent years, the exhibition explores the many ways in which we communicate beyond words. Through painting, sculpture, video, sound, text, installation, and performance, the works reveal how language intersects with gesture, the body, images, emotions, and the voice to produce and transform meaning.
The exhibition presents works that address translation, communication across languages, affective relationships, memory, identity, and cultural difference, suggesting that communication involves far more than the literal understanding of words.
Artists:
Alejandro Cesarco, Michel François, Charlie Godet Thomas, Jenny Holzer, Clotilde Jiménez, Elsa-Louise Manceaux, Calixto Ramírez, Allen Ruppersberg, Santiago Sierra, Slavs & Tatars, Lawrence Weiner, and Cerith Wyn Evans.
