Island within an island 1993
Island Within an Island, 1993. La Colección Jumex, Mexico
Before a trip to Brazil, in 1991, Orozco acquired his first camera. That same year, he photographed a deserted market with oranges that he placed on tables and titled it Crazy Tourist. He has continued to make photographs to document his sculptural interventions in many cities and in nature. A couple of years later, in New York, he took several of the photographs that form an important part of his body of work, such as Island Within an Island, from 1993, which shows a watery surface within the city that is itself an island, and Pinched Ball from the same year, in which he emphasizes the lack of air as it has been filled with water.
