This work is closely linked to the whale made by Orozco for the Biblioteca Vasconcelos in Mexico City called Mobile Matrix. Unlike the first whale, which shows circles and ellipses traced with graphite on the natural bone structure, Dark Wave was made in resin and drawn over in dense graphite layers on molds of each bone of another specimen, cast with a special mixture of calcium sprayed for more than three months in Huelva, Spain. Dark Wave is also covered in graphite by a geometric pattern based on the way drops generate circles on the surface of water.
