In Guided Tour (Follow Me), a 12-year old boy leads a tour group through the historic center of his home town Zadar in Croatia. Speaking in future tense, the young guide leads tourists from an empty gallery to the adjoining town square, mixing historical fact and anecdote to describe the town not as it is but as it might be. Ondák’s works create narrative threads that connect everyday spaces and activities to speculative histories, thus forcing viewers into being complicit or unwitting participants in the construction of hypothetical realities.
