Throughout his career, Orozco has implemented the notion of play to reflect on the system of rules for ordering the world and how, by modifying some of its components, diverse relationships in space-time are transformed. In 1996 he was invited to make an installation in an abandoned building in London that used to be a gambling house and “Gentlemans’ club”. Transformed into an exhibition space and given the title Empty Club, he invited visitors to play with familiar objects whose rules he himself had changed, for instance, in Carambole with Pendulum.. The Atomists series, also exhibited in this show, also connects to the idea of the game, illustrating different world athletes in a dynamic way according to the artist’s characteristic circles. On the other hand, works such as Horses Running Endlessly demonstrate that games, even when transformed, are still possible.
