Guy de Cointet — Tempo Rubato
Magalí Arriola, Marie de Brugerolle, Jay Sanders

This catalog, published for Guy de Cointet—Tempo Rubato, an exhibition held at Fundación/Colección Jumex, December 2012–February 2013, features three critical essays and a great number of photographs that portray a retrospective of the life and work of this French artist after emigrating to the Unites States in 1965, where he got in contact with diverse artistic trends, including Abstraction, Minimalism and Conceptualism.

Guy de Cointet’s work includes drawings, publications, performances and video, often putting together these different areas of artistic investigation, bringing together performance, conceptual, minimalist, abstract and inspired by historical events, popular culture and the media. Using codes, ciphers, language, word and image, his work captures what a foreigner feels while living in another country, as language can function simultaneously as an aesthetic experience, and a code to decipher. The publication includes a facsimile of his play IGLU (1977) and its Spanish translation.
