The exhibition arises from the search for a photograph of her father in 1996, which triggered an investigative process centered around delving into the financial crises of the nineties in Argentina from a personal perspective. The video installation Corrientes Mercuriales Mercurial Currents explores both the fictional and real stories that emerge from the photograph. A network of sounds composed of human and automated voices, give life to stories about spaces that are now abandoned due to enormous technological transitions, the artist’s family history, and her affective relationships with these spaces. An orchestral ringing chorus of telephones accompanies the video and, together, these images and sounds build a sensory journey that suggests that, just as nature has its cycles, so do human crises.

A series of paintings inspired by quantum computers accompanies the installation. In these works, the artist studies the future and the physicality of intangible and silent technologies that are nowadays a part of our lives, through the materiality of painting.

These works create a narrative that links the technological with the ecological and the past with the future, to reflect upon family trauma, debt and the failed promise of a global neoliberal economy.

Carolina Fusilier’s work explores a post-human imaginary through painting, sound, and film, contemplating the intersection between organic and mechanical bodies, es well as between industrial and domestic scenarios. She received the Raul Urtasun-Frances Harley Fellowship, The Banff Centre, Canada, (2015); and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship, USA, (2019). Her 2020 film El Lado Quieto, co-directed with Miko Revereza, was selected by the ACC (Asia Culture Center) Cinema Fund (South Korea), and presented at festivals throughout the world. Recent solo shows include Clepsidra, Daniela Elbahara Gallery, Mexico City (2022); Kitchen With a View, Locust Projects, Miami (2019); and Angel Engines, Natalia Hug Gallery, Cologne (2018). She has also exhibited at the Doc Fortnight festival, MoMA, New York (2022), Open City Film Festival, ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art), London (2021), Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires (2020), The Drawing Center, New York (2019), and the Centro Cultural Tlatelolco, Mexico City (2019). She studied at the Universidad del Cine, Buenos Aires (2006-2009) and has completed further education at the Düsseldorf Academy (2018- 2019); SOMA, Mexico City (2016-2017) and the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Buenos Aires (2011).
